PS4 CUH-1116A error SU-30679-5 refuses to update

Postby final-freak » Thu Jul 05, 2018 7:50 pm

so let me get this straight as it seems im probably the biggest noob in this forum so please be patient with me

now to the problem! i bought a used PS4 and everytime when i try to update the ps4 it gives me error code SU-30679-5
i looked it up on google and i found a pretty amazing pastebin page which describes a lot of error codes
and it turns out the description of my code is

SCE_UPDATER_CORE_ERROR_BD_FW_SK_INVALID_PARAM 0x801809c2

so i am certain that something is wrong with the firmware of my bdp-025 board
does anybody know if i can fix that pesky error?
i really hope the renesas chip isnt broken and its just some stupid little piece on the board
soldering iron, multimeter and heat gun are ready to fix every shit that this board has to throw at me :D

i post some pictures there are two spots where someone clearly put some solder on
but google says its nothing to worry about
Image

and one leg of the renesas chip seems a little bend
Image

at last both board sides sorry the lighting is a bit shitty :'D

if something is unclear or you dont really get what im talking about sorry english isnt my native language. i try my best :)

Hello!

Try to reinstall the full system software.
Follow the listed instructions:

a) Download the "Full system software" from Sony website (make sure that the downloaded file size is more than 900MB) and make update USB flash drive with downloaded file (Format the USB flash drive, create new folder named "PS4" and inside it create new folder named "UPDATE" then place the downloaded file in this folder).
b) Turn OFF the console completely and make sure that the LED diode on the console is not lit or flashing.
c) Connect the USB flash drive to the console.
d) Enter the "Safe Mode" (Press and hold the power button for cca. 7 seconds).
e) Select the option "Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software)".

Be aware: All data on the console HDD will be lost!

thank you for your reply :) sorry i should have mentioned it
i already did this many times with different usb sticks even with different formating settings and different hdds that are all confirmed working i even did sector checks on all of them to comfirm nothing is wrong with the hdds
only thing i could think of is that i dont have a drive bigger than 320gb but i can reinstall the firmware (4.74) that the ps4 is currently running on without any error so i am pretty sure the problem is not related to the hdd or the usb stick i am using

maybe its also good to know that i get unrecognized disc error if i am trying to play a blu ray disc

The latest firmware version is currently 5.55. Try to reinstall the full system software with this firmware version.
Make sure that you are using the full system software and not just an update. The firmware file size on the USB flash drive should be more than 900MB !!!

sorry if it was a misunderstanding
of course i only used the full system software and tried everything to get it working
i can list all variations i tried
tried to install:
fw 5.55 (~900mb) on a 16gb usb 3.0 installed on a 160gb hdd
fw 5.55 (~900mb) on a 2gb usb 2.0 installed on a 160gb hdd
fw 5.55 (~900mb) on a 2gb usb 2.0 with specific cluster size installed on a 160gb hdd
fw 5.55 (~900mb) on a 16gb usb 3.0 limited to 2gb and formateded with a specific cluster size on a 160gb hdd (because a guy on google got it fixed with these settings)
i did evey variation with fw 5.00 (next fw after 4.74) and after that failed too i did everything with a 320gb hdd
also tried to update via internet also no luck ... :/
that whole process took me over 6h of work because i tried every possible solution i could think of
at some point i even tried to install just the 5.00 update pup with various configurations but that failed too which was expected so nvm

so i guess im out of luck? i would not asked here if i didnt tried every obvious solution related to this problem i could find on google :/

the blu ray board is married with the ps4 so you cant simply swap boards :(
but i could desolder the renesas chip and transplant it to a different board
but thats the last thing i want to do because i dont know if the renesas chip in itself is broken and the desoldering process is a pretty challenging task for a inexperienced stupid guy like me
but i guess i have no choice :?
i will give it a shot and write back if something goes wrong :)

yeah but swap it just to see what happens at least!

swapping chips isnt too hard, just use hot air :)

ive had issues with consoles where id just give up and buy a whole new (second hand) ps3 and swap the chips over :)

Install another drive board and the update will continue once that is done swap the renesas chip to the new board . 1100's normally have 020 or 025 boards and the chip can be swapped no issue it just does not work on the 010 board tried and tested it dont work from 020,025 to 010. but from 020 to 025 works .
