Water Damage repair

Postby s4charged » Sat Feb 22, 2014 5:20 pm

I bought a galaxy note 2 on ebay, cracked screen, phone is also water damaged, all functions work except the ear speaker / headphone jack and microphone.

Initially I was just going to replace them with new parts from eBay, but I have a ultrasonic cleaner so I figured I would give those parts a clean.

Can I use the same solution I use for 360s/PS3s? I use about 30% water and 70% MEK. Works well for my consoles but I just wanted to make sure I dont have to use anything less aggressive on these parts.

Any advice would be appreciated :D

Nothing but IPA, mixed with nothing else? 91% good?

I always use just 91% alcohol with nothing else mixed in with it.
Seems to do the job just fine.

IPA all the way, but in your case, you'll probably need to replace the speaker and microphone.

That's why whenever you repair a water damaged phone and put it in the ultrasonic cleaner, you need to remove the speaker and microphone. 9 time out of 10, they will be ruined.

Hi mates,
I wonder for how long are you cleaning contaminated boards into ultrasonic cleaner with IPA?
regards, J.
