[Tutorial] Convert PS4 4Pins to 5Pins PSU

Postby 3absiso » Sat Feb 20, 2016 10:35 pm

Hi;

Here we have a lot of PS4 that can be imported from USA and some from Europe, and for who does not know some comes with a 5Pins PSU and some with 4Pins PSU.

In this tutorial we will convert a 4Pin PS4 to use a 5Pin PSU, there may other methods to do that but i found this is the easiest.

- You Will need One 4 Pins Power Cable and One 5 Pins Power Cable and follow the images and Diagram

Follow This Diagram:

I'll test it out, but in theory it should work both ways.

If you use this method then test it by pulling the power plug while the console is running. Thats about as safe as playing russian roulette.
Going from a 4 pin power supply to a 5 pin mobo is safe. The other way around is asking for *BIG* problems.
The ac-detect pin is there for a reason. Sony went from a 3 fase power supply on the 5 pin mobo to a 2 fase power supply. The mosfets on the 4 pin motherboards thus handle 50% more current than on the 5 pin. The ac-detect signal makes sure that the mosfets are no longer active by disabling the regulator when a power failture occurs. If that signal never comes the mosfet driver voltage will decrease with the dropping power supply output, resulting in a higher resistance in the mosfets which also get driven on for longer to keep the Vapu on target resulting in massive overheating of the mosfets. These mosfets handle over 110A, anyone that knows P=I^2.R can do the math.

just noticed this thread, not been on BGA MODS in a while.

im looking at using one psu to test all ps4 varient motherboards, would this suffice for short term use for testing purposes? or should i use a 4 pin PSU for all?
