You have never been more right.
Tvs can be a pita when it comes to repairs, but its an amazing feeling once you bring one back to life.
I have a Samsung 42' that I have been working on. It would run for a while then black screen, sound would still work and the power light blinked on and off.
I ended up replacing the invertor board and it seems to be doing fine.
I told the customer that I would only be charging a small fee because I am not 100% that it fixed the problem.

Another reason why I need a esr meter to test capacitors without having to remove those pesky bastards.

I have a Bush LCD32TV022HD, standby light stuck on, but wont wake up out of standby, i pulled the back off, expecting to see lots of bulging caps, but none were visibly fubar. an ESR meter would come in really handy, might wait until my reflow set up arrives, then invest in one.

if you have a multi meter you can test for output voltages and inputs, they should be printed next to the connectors as to what they are supposed to be :)
