reflow lcd tcon board?

Postby wills123 » Fri Feb 28, 2014 1:54 pm

basically im curious as to if anyone has ever had to reflow one, i have 40" samsung lcd here that i got cheap, its picture is all screwy when its cold, once warmed up its fine, using h/r wand on the tcon board i can make it behave properly quicker, theres a bga chip on the board i suspect may be the problem. Thinking about reflowing it see what happens? thoughts?

update, i reflowed the bga on the tcon made no difference, with a bit more fiddling about ive come to the conclusion that its a tab bond fault, going to strip t.v down further and see if i cant come up with some kind of fix, temporary or otherweise lol, going to keep the t.v for myself so no harm in trying, if i fails altogether will part it out :)

I got one similar but the problem is shorting on the whole board if i put the card in, if i take it out there is no shorting. What do you think, is it possible that this card is shorting, because i see only few BGA's and capacitors.

there are many ic's and stuff on the tcon i was working on, either replace it or start testing all the components is the only way i would say,

an update on the one i was working on, i stripped it right down, found the left most tab bond to be the problem, slightest pressure would make it work fine so i took 3 xbox 360 thermal ram pads an placed those on it, put it back together an so far its working fine, dont excpect it will last long though, im not gonna be replacing the panel so when it eventually dies i'll part it out :)

Probably has some bad mosfets/transistors.
They could explain why heat seems to be a solution.
