lg pdp42v7, 42" sd plasma tv psu problem

Postby wills123 » Thu Jan 16, 2014 11:21 am

so i picked up this t.v very cheap with no power, took it apart to test what if any voltages i get and there was nothing at all outputted, i get 240v going into it but its not reaching the bridge rectifier,
i started testing the components between the fuse and the bridge rect,
found a 5w 15 ohm ceramic type resistor that has very high resitance( looks like this, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-Pcs-Wirewou ... 2c6ebfcb76)
i cant seem to find one the same in the uk :(

the rest of the t.v is unkonwn if its any good or not, so what would happen if i just bridge the resitor to test and see if the rest works? i.e would it cause any problems or break anything else?
or could i just a normal resitor or something instead?
sry for the n00bness haha

Just get a 5% 5W 15 Ohm resistor and try that.
I wouldnt bridge the points it may cause some unexpected damage to other components.
If that resistor fixes the issue then I would proceed to order a replacement like the one you listed.

an update on this one, i found the right resistor and replaced it, it blew as soon as power wasapplied also taking the one beside it, i found the bridge rectifier was also faulty, replaced that and the two resistors only for it to happen again, i think theres a short somewhere behind the B/R. another problem thats probably beynd my skills level, i may end up buying another board i think

That is very strange, but perhaps it would be cheaper to buy another board.
Take a little stress off.

Good deal!
I am glad you got it working.
You need to check out Justine Yong.
He has alot of information on Tv repair.
There is also a site called http://www.badcaps.net that has tons of information about tvs.
Well worth looking into.
