PS4 port durability? Any returns after warranty?

Postby chronic519 » Mon Apr 16, 2018 7:47 pm

Hello everyone:

I have replaced a crap ton of ports over the past 2 years. I have had roughly 3 come back for replacement after warranty (maybe a year down the road).

I am using serial version ports with the plastic backing.

I have used these religiously without any defects.

But now I see a couple returns for port issues (way past 6 months) over the years and I start to wounder. This one that just came had no appearance of psychically damage, bent pins or any other signs of faults. Solder looked solid (but eyeing out solder is not a true test). So out of curiosity I want to know why. I broke of the plating and found what appears to be oxide on the pins inside. Just like I would see on cartridges. So it makes me wounder. Is this from dirty HDMI cable, crappy HDMI cable or crappy HDMI socket metal pins? I frankly do not want any of my repairs to come back for the same issue (warranty or not). I would not assume this is wide spread issue as I would be getting hammered by warranty repair or repetitive customers for HDMI again and again. I tapped a photo with this post.

Anyone have HDMI sockets return? If so, how often? If not, what port do you use and how many have you done.
I would appreciate if anyone could provide any info on this, thanks.

Copper + steel = galvanic corrosion, this is the reason :)
To prevent this situation we have to use copper covered HDMI cables instead cheap steel ones.

I have had the same issue with some coming back with no physical damage, and having to replace. I'll have to pop open the next one I get back in as well and see if its corroding.
