Adhesive Tape?

Postby Macflamez » Wed Apr 24, 2013 1:08 pm

I am trying to fit a new screen to my Kindle Touch. I managed to get the new screen but what a pain in the arris to remove the old one! The old screen is stuck to the frame with what might be a type of double sided tape (like the 3M tape used in iPods but thicker just under 2mm.). I had to use a hot air desolder iron and a metal spudger to gradually break the old screen up and remove it. I then scraped much of the adhesive off and finished with wire wool and rubbing alcohol.
Now I am wondering what sort of adhesive I should use to fix the new screen? It needs to be fairly heat proof and slightly flexible in that it will expand with the screen as the screen gets hotter. Does anyone have any experience with similar adhesives who could recommend some?

Thanks NorcalReballer. I guessed it would have been a 3M product. Though I am not aware of the black stuff. Can you order it in fairly small amounts i.e 3" x 4" ? I do not think I want to change another kindle 4 screen so I will not need a lot of tape!

This is what I have. Its cheap enough and I'm sure you'll run into more uses for it down the road. This is 2mm and in US so maybe find some in UK.

You should try Blue Painters Tape is a pressure-sensitive tape which is made of a thin and easy-to-tear paper which have an easily released pressure-sensitive adhesive also.
