code0102stinks: I have used this USB-DB9 adapter successfully to interface with numerous hardware. This USB-DB9 interface works with Win10 and Mac OS X.

The PC410 has never been hooked up and communicated with. I am planning to use the PC410 with a SSR, a k-type thermocouple, and a heating element.

You can change port setting in Devicemanager, choose your "USB TO SERIAL" device, right click it.
Choose properties\Port Settings\Advanced\COM port number <-- change that to 1.

Thanks I will try that out when I get back.

Does this mean it is not possible to connect multiple PC410 units to a single windows computer?

Correct, only 1 pc410 with rs232 as I said before, works only with port 1.
Dunno if rs 422 or rs485 can solve that problem, as they are available with those ports too.
