I've heard of people using .5 or .55 solder balls on ps3 and xbox 360s are there any advantages to this.

smaller balls have less chance of joining together when heated

I knew a guy who swore by 0.5 on 360 GPUs, as such I have a 250k container in the shop. Have done 'dry' runs on dead GPUs just to see, and they are certainly easier to reattach without bridging. Time will tell if they hold up as well on the console itself.

the pad size is 0.6 but 0.55 work very well, although i personally prefer 0.6 :)

I've actually seen other people swear by 0.5's and 0.55's. I still haven't gotten into reballing yet, just been busy and making another shopping list of bits I need to buy... so haven't gotten around to it. :)
