T-8280 Uneven temperatures

Postby o_ryry » Tue Mar 24, 2015 1:59 pm

Hi, I recently purchased an T-8280 from an eBay seller. What's the best way to test that it is actually achieving the temps that the display is reporting? I have a handheld infrared thermometer that I am using to get estimates and the temperatures are very uneven. There are 2 plates but the temperature readings for either plate are inconsistent across its geography. How often do these devices come defective?

Unless you have a decent ir thermometer then the readings that you are getting are probably way off.
Atleast mine where with the ir thermometer.
You can use a dual channel thermocoupler and touch the thermocoupler ends to the plates and measure that way.

A thermocouple is the best way to get temperatures. Contact based sensors are the way to go.

I think you are expecting the entire ceramic surface of the elements to read the same temp. They won't. That raised rib pattern of the top of the ceramic
portion is where the actual heating element is molded into the ceramic plate. The rib will be hotter than the ceramic surface below the rib. It will get
more even the longer the element is on.

Thanks for the responses. I am new to using this equipment so I don't have any previous experience to fall back on. I will buy a thermocouple reader. Is this a good one? Would you recommend a different one?
