size of a preheater

Postby Umbie » Sun Mar 03, 2013 3:31 pm

I have a question about a preheater size, I don't know if this is the right section.

I found several preheaters, all in different sizes an power.
I will repair mainly Playstations and xboxes (big sizes pcb's)

Should the preheater cover the whole pcb? or is it ok to have a smaller area, with the same power (so more heat on a smaller area)

Are you looking to build a preheater or buy one? Have a look at the T8280.

Well, I have 2 options, or modify my existing Ersa by a 1000Watt heater, but it will be 1 element, or remove it and buy a preheater

Thnx for the response.
4 heaters won't fit..
That's why I ask, or put in a more powerfull heater, but the same (small) size, or rebuild the device and buy a ready made.
The T8280 is nice, but is it powerful enough?
And is there something on the market, only the heating elements build in a box? I have the temp. controller and everything already laying around.

It's a mod,I have an Ersa IR500A machine, but I started this threat to get more knowledge about the bottom heater.. everyone is talking about power, but not about the size.
So before I spend money I wanted to know what the best choice would be.

power and size are both important, if you plan on doing bigger boards such as ps3 then you need a preheater that will cover the area of the board mate, if it doesnt you may end up with uneven heat issues causing all sorts of problems, hope that helps :D

Thanks for your answer and yes that helps alot.

Let's go for a bigger preheater.
Now I have to find a simple one without a controller, The T8280 is one of my options.
